pwc sun valley : bonne réouverture de la voile sans avoir eu à sortir le secours

Charlie and I were going up to shoot stills of the Paragliding World Cup from the tandem today. When we got to the top it was apparent that we would not be flying due to the crazy wind conditions we would have to launch in. About 70 were able to launch today and it was crazy to watch each of the takeoffs. I decided at one point it would be wise to shoot a bit of video on the launches, and as I did this collapse happened. Please excuse the blurriness, as I did not have my eyepiece due to thinking I would be shooting stills primarily today.

Soon after this the task for the day was called off due to the terrible wind.

The pilot was fine, and everyone was surprised he didn’t throw his reserve and opted to try to pull it off… thank God he was able to at the last moment.

Ca semble volontaire de maintenir le decro, il semblait pas cravaté, sinon l’aile aurait pas pu revoler si vite… en tout cas il a fait une belle frayeur aux autres, c’est une IP6 semble t’il :roll:

Il semble avoir défait un twist juste avant que la voile sorte du décro, les freins ayant étaient probablement bloqués!

Moi je vois qu’il s’est tapé toute la descente sans tirer le secours.
Alors soit il en avait pas (j’y crois pas), soit il s’était coincé dans le twist et là … soit il profitait du paysage pendant la digestion de sa barre de céréales vitaminée.

J’en connais plus d’un qui aurait déjà fait 2 litres d’huile et sorti tous les parachutes qu’ils peuvent.

Parfois, on ne PENSE même pas au secours, aussi…

… ou alors on ne pense pas à vérifier la hauteur/sol, tout occupé qu’on est à détricoter le bouzin.

Moi je crois plutôt que c’est la nouvelle méthode de descente rapide des derniers guns de compet, et visiblement ça marche ! :smiley:

un témoin oculaire :

"Next up was an unknown pilot on a grey IP6. I didn’t see what caused it, but at the gasps and pointed fingers I looked over to watch him cascading until his tips went in and he was in some sort of stall situation. Multiple riser twists and we saw him acquire even more, and soon we watched him facing the wrong way under his mostly-closed glider and going down. His descent rate in this configuration was actually quite impressively slow, almost the same as coming down under a small reserve, and once he stabled out it looked like he was proceeding to kick his riser twists out. But he was approaching the mountain and the chairlift lines and people started yelling, and over the radio, to throw his reserve. But he refused to and ended up kicking himself out of the twists and getting his glider flying again just as he disappeared from view, and shortly swooped into view with barely enough altitude to clear the terrain. He then proceeded to get jerked back up and was soon flying out to land, presumably with soiled underwear :slight_smile:

At this point I wasn’t very enthused about flying in these rotory conditions and a few seconds later the launch window was closed"

Si un jour vous twistez, et si vous n’avez pas encore mis du frein, lachez vos freins pour prendre les drisses de freins au dessus du twist. Si vous pilotez la voile avec les poignées de frein, il y a de bonnes (mal)chances que les freins restent bloquées en position freinée.
