[quote]Hi Martin,
What happened with the Top3 Gliders of each brand that they wanted to test after the Superfinal?
I asked Ulric Jessop this question today, because the PWCA was criticized by many pilots this week (in private conversations, not publicly during the briefings) for their lack of progress in this matter, because the wings are still at the PWCA office with Laura.
It turns out that it is not the fault of the PWCA that things are not moving faster.
First DHL delivered one of the gliders very late to the PWCA office, then they had to book a regular check-date with Air Turquoise and the first date that was offered to the World Cup was the 13.th of February, which is when this will happen.
Bruce G.: “We are all still waiting for the result. Rain might have quite a bit to do with that!”
No this has nothing to do with it: The PWCA had to define exactly what they want to have tested,
and they have booked and will pay for measurements only: The 3 gliders from the Superfinal will be
measured and compared with the stored reference-gliders. Rain or Sun will have no influence on that I hope…
The gliders will not be test-flown according to the PWCA.
All week I have heard so many statements about Air Turquoise, and rumors about the wings that are stored there that almost no one ever sees. After all the accusations, protests and discussions this week about risers, lines, canopies, I am upset that even a simple request to confirm a certain measurement can take such a long time to get answered and then it might not be answered in a clear way.
This is where I see the biggest issue at the moment: A regular customer cannot find out if his own glider is identical to the reference model that got certified. Pilots got punished in Brazil and here in Mexico for something that they have no control over and not even sufficient information. One starting point would be e.g. to publish pictures of the risers on a centimeter-lined background - then every pilot can compare: Does my riser look the same.
So I decided that I want go to Air Turqoise when the gliders are checked and take notes and pictures and inform the interested pilots that were at the PWCs and here in the forum.
Thankfully the PWCA has allowed me to do so and that I can observe the process. I can report publicly after Air Turquoise and the PWCA have made their official statements.
So stay tuned…
Ulli
